The historic buildings, churches and public institutions are all situated in this area and they determine the scape of the city. The one-time medieval market functions nowadays as a public square. The Szinva Streem runs accross the city. The image of the city is constatly changing, the bed of the Szinva Stream and the surrounding areas were transformed into a promenade. The National Theatre of Miskolc, the first Actor Museum of the Hungarian provinces, the Museum of Hungarian Orthodox Church containig the largest iconostase of Central Europe, the Galery of Miskolc, which is regarded as the oldest building of the city are all located in the historic city center. Several tourist attractions are situated on the Avas Mountain, which rises in the heart of the city. The Lutheran Church and its campanile, the look-out tower and intimate wine cellars wait for guests.
The Lutheran church of Avas
The church dates back to the 15th century, the cemetery is regarded as the oldest one in the city.
The Avas Campanile
The campanile was built in 1577 and its clock provides a carillon in every 15 minutes. The tower and the church have been symbols of the city for a long time.
Lutheran Church in the city center (Kossuth u. 17, Miskolc)
The neoclassic building was built between 1786 and 1808, it is known as the largest Lutheran church of the city.
Woodchurch (Petofi ter, Miskolc)
The church was built in 1938 and fully burnt in 1997. The rebuilding was finished in April 1999 by retainig the original form.
Lutheran Church (Hunyadi u. 8, Miskolc)
The church was burnt out completely as a result of a stroke of lightning and is was rebuilt between 1817 and 1820.
Minorite Roman Catholic Church (Hosok tere 3, Miskolc)
The church was built between 1735 and 1743, it is situated on a frequented place of the city. The building was planned by Giovanni Battista Carlone.
Mindszent Roman Catholic Church (Mindszent ter 8, Miskolc)
The church was built between 1728 and 1744. Is has one nave.
Maria Sculpture
It was put up to the memory of the plague epidemic.
Orthodox Church (Deak Ferenc ter 7)
It was built by the greek merchants, who once lived in the city. Its greatest attraction is the 18-meter high iconostase.
Roman Catholic College – Baji-Patay House (Hunyadi u. 6, Miskolc)
The building was a country house and it was rebuilt in the 19th century.
Ispotaly (Mindszent ter 10, Miskolc)
The building served as a hospital for the poor.
Szent Anna Church (Szent Anna ter, Miskolc)
The construction of the neoclassical church was finished in 1818. The sacristies join the shrine from both sides. The high-shrine is decorated with a painting depicting St. Anne.
Synagogue (Kazinczy u. 7, Miskolc)
The building was designed by Ludwig Forster, who also designed the synagogue in Dohany Street in Budapest. The synagogue of Miskolc is the largest operating spiritual building in the region.

The History of the University of Miskolc, Library of Historical Monuments

Forestry College of Selmec is regarded as the ancestor of the University of Miskolc. The exhibition is about the period between 1735 and 1918. The visit is free of charge.

The exhibition is about the history of Miskolc, archeological exhibition and about Hungarian minerals.
Orthodox Museum

The Museum opens from the garden of the church and is regarded as the museum with the richest orthodox spiritual collection in Hungary.
Mission Art Gallery

The visit is free of charge. The gallery was founded in 1990. The exhibition is about the last tendencies of contemporary painting.
Hungarian Technological Museum – Central Metallurgical Musuem

Opening hours: all days from 9:00 a.m. to 17:00 p.m (closed on Mondays). The visit is free of charge.
The exhibition is about Hungarian metallurgy. Functioning models and documents help us to get acquainted with steel production.
Hungarian Technological Museum – Massa Museum

Opening hours: April 20 – October 20: from 9:00 a.m. to 16.30 p.m. (closed on Mondays)
The Smeltery of Ujmassa is regarded as the first industrial monument of Hungary. It was founded by Henrik Fazola, who was a famous iron bars producer. He was the owner of several mines and due to the huge forests of the region his smeltery was operated till 1872, when the iron-factory was opened in Diosgyor.
Post-Horn Gallery

Opening hours: on Tuesdays from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., on Thursdays 14:00 p.m. – 16:00 p.m.
The museum can be visited in other periods as well upon request. All visits are free. The exhibition is about the history of the post in the region.

Sandor Petro, the famous doctor, donated his collection of pictures to the city of Miskolc. His one-time home is one of the showrooms of the Miskolc Gallery.

The exhibition is about the history of telecommunication. Several telephone-stations and telephones can be used by the visitors.
